Individuals have the capacity to place something between stimulus and response that immediately gives us control over how the situation will affect us. That important element is choice. Describe a personal experience demonstrating how choice can determine the effects of stress.
Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand or threat. When you sense danger—whether it’s real or imagined—the body's defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction or the "stress response".But beyond a certain point, stress stops being helpful and starts causing major damage to your health, your mood, your productivity, your relationships, and your quality of life.
Choice make an important effect on decision making and stress. when we experience a situation in which we have too many alternatives in which we are cent percent sure with any of the alternatives, we get confused and the pressure to complete the task and the associating stress level increases. in other words if we have too many choices, it can stress us out. And that can be true whether those choices are heart-wrenching or trivial. but if the situation provides choices in which one of the alternatives is highly favourable than the other, we end up choosing that and therefore reduce the accompnying confusion and stress related to that.
At one time, my need to “shop around” was too much. I got confused, and even anxious, when I needed to buy stuff that could be a new wallet. It was until i realized how much energy it took up.
so i made a decision not to waste my time on looking at seemingly infinite choices and offers at different options.
When I had to buy a car, I visited only one showroom. I'd made the decision that this was the car for me in around one hour, and chose not to spend more hours or days of my time going from one place to another to check other deals and different cars. I was confident it was a good deal when I found it and it's never let me down.
Because too much choice is stressful. And it can quite literally send ourself crazy with it, like I did.
