JJ Thomson's experiment resulted in the finding out that atoms contains negativily charged sub atomic paricles and was called electrons.He determined that the negatively charged particles (electrons) were much lighter than the positively charged particles.

From his experimental results JJ Thomson concluded the plum pudding model for an atom, where electrons are embedded in a positivily charged soup.

This model was then dicarded by Rutherford's experiment who found that most of the space inside the atom was empty and there is a tiny, dense positivily charged nucleas which are orbited by the electrons.
