do you want to test the hypothesis that coffee consumption increases hair loss. Describe how you would perform the experiment to test out the hypothesis. In your description identify the following: control, independent variable, and dependent variable.

Answer #1

In this case, we will use mice as animal model in order to predict what would happen to humans. We will use 4 groups (each group will have 5 individuals):

Control group: Water only

Experimental 1: 25% concentration of coffee

Experimental 2: 50% concentration of coffee

Experimental 3: 75% concentration of coffee

The experiment consist in feed the mice with the different treatment during one month. After one month, the mice will be removed from the cage and the hairs within the cage will be extracted and weigh in a balance. We predict that the experimental group 3 will lose more hair that the rest of the experimental groups and the control group will have just a small amount of hair.

Control: Water only

Independent variable: Concentration of coffee

Dependent variable: Gram of hair obtained in each group

The levels of the independent variable and how you set them/will manipulate them. 3. The dependent variable and how you will measure it.

Coffee and Depression. Researchers conducted a study investigating the relationship between caffeinated coffee consumption and risk of depression in women. They collected data on 50,739 women free of depression symptoms at the start of the study in the year 1996, and these women were followed through 2006. The researchers used questionnaires to collect data on caffeinated coffee consumption, asked each individual about physician- diagnosed depression, and also asked about the use of antidepressants. The table below shows the distribution of...

An experimenter wishes to test the hypothesis that a special vitamin supplement increases memory. To do this the experimenter randomly assigns subjects to either receive or not receive the vitamin supplement. After allowing a time period for the vitamin to work, the subjects are then given a memory test. The number of nonsense syllables correctly recalled serves as the dependent variable. The data for the two groups (with 5 subjects in each group) are as follows: Experimental   Control 10 8...

Design an experiment that verifies Ohm's Law. In other words, describe (in a sentence or two) how you would conduct such an experiment using the fixed resistor and variable voltage source. Identify your dependent and independent variables and sketch a plot with the independent variable on the x-axis and the dependent variable on the y-axis. Include axes labels and the slope term of the sketched plot and relate this to Ohm's Law.
