Find a case where the convention about signs in thermodynamics, physics, chemistry is not true.

Answer #1

One of the important fact is that physics deals with system and chemistry deals with surroundings.

As per thermodynamics, we have system and surroundings so, we have

Work(System) + Work(surrounding) = Zero

It means when work done by system is positive then work done by surroundings become negative and vice versa

In physics, we calculate forces, acceleration of a body which is a part of system,  Hence System becomes reference in physics. So we give positive sign convention for System and negative to surroundings,

In chemistry,  we calculate temperature, pressure and other properties of the gases which constitutes Surroundings. Hence Surroundings becomes reference in Chemistry. So we give positive sign convention for Surroundings and negative to system in order for the total work done to be zero.

Each student in a physics lab is assigned to find the location where a bright object may be placed in order that a concave mirror with radius of curvature r = 40.4 cm will produce an image 3.3 times the size of the object. Two students complete the assignment at different times using identical equipment, but when they compare notes later, they discover that their answers for the object distance are not the same. this is a thermodynamics class 4. We want to develop an intuition for what different amounts of energy look like in various forms. Calculate the energy in MegaJoules (MJ) present in the following systems. As a comment, many people will be surprised by some of the values, for example, a comparison of part e to parts a through c. a) 1 liter (approximately 1 quart) of octane, a primary component of gasoline. In this case, the chemical energy is released...
