I have a graduated cylinder that is upside down. The open end is just submerged in a big tank of water. The graduated cylinder contains 100 ml of air, at the closed end, and the rest of the space contains water. As I move the graduated cylinder down in the water, the pressure increases and the temperature stays basically constant. What is the absolute pressure when the cylinder is 10 m below the surface of the water? What is the volume of air in my graduated cylinder when it is 10 m below the surface?

A graduated cylinder filled with water rests upside down in a container of water at 0 C. The water is 7.00 cm deep. Attached to the base of the cylinder is a small ring (but since the cylinder is upside down, the ring is at the highest elevation, available for grabbing). The base of the cylinder has mass 10.0 grams with ring included. The cylinder itself has radius 3.00 cm, height 40.0 cm, and mass 100.0 grams (including the base...

A primitive diving bell consists of a cylindrical tank with one end open and one end closed. The tank is lowered into a freshwater lake, open end downward. Water rises into the tank, compressing the trapped air, whose temperature remains constant during the descent. The tank is brought to a halt when the distance between the surface of the water in the tank and the surface of the lake is 35.0 m. Atmospheric pressure at the surface of the lake...
