‘Retrospective Methodology’, and ‘Past Lessons Learned Method’ are to two commonly used techniques for conducting the ‘post-mortem’ of a completed project. How does each method enhance the quality/comprehensiveness of a post-project evaluation? Which method would you prefer to utilize?
Restrospective methodology means looking back on contemplating or directed to the past. This method is used for evaluating project performance, extracting lessons learned and making recommendations for the future. Its important for organizational learning, continuous improvement in process, procedures and culture and also better for estimating future models, increasing team relationship.
Past Lessons learned method it represents the organizations ability to remember what has transpired and to lay the foundation for continued success. It helps all project stakeholders , project managers , team members gaining knowledge from the report.its a process as a set of interrelated actions and activities performed to achieve a specified set of products results or services. Its purpose is to define the activities required to successfully capture and use lessons learned.
I would like to choose Retrospective methodology to evaluate the project success. it will provide a rich understanding of the project management practices used within a specific context during the specific time frame.
