Public relations is the method of evolving an optimistic image for an organization in the minds of the community. Some organizations may employ pr manager to develop operational plans to endorse their image. Public relations authorities make use of the media to spread a positive message about the organization.ex: charity functions, fundraising events etc

Sales include the give-and-take of goods or services for financial return. A business may pay a team of salespeople who try to discover forecasts for their business's goods and make them purchase.

The following are the main difference between them;

Activities: Selling usually is publicity, direct marketing, and advertising which pursues to return direct sales; PR is focused on status management through producing optimistic media coverage and stakeholder communication.

Target audiences: Selling goals to spread current and possible customers, public relations is all about sustaining positive interactions who has an interest in the organization. This shelters a wider audience across customers and channels employees and shareholders.

  Two distinct goals: Selling teams are to extend consumers and make them think, believe or do some kind of sales untiring action. public relations is about selling the brand through completely handling the message channels between a company and its stakeholders. Generally, marketing activities are trying to attain direct revenue, while PR is trying to drive a positive status through an operative strategy.

The sincerity of messages: Messages conveyed through PR channels such as articles, conference speakers, bloggers are observed by consumers as more authentic than those offered through marketing tactics. Generally, people can clearly identify that advertising and marketing are determined by a company to raise sales.

Business ROI: Selling is defined as a business investment salaried branding and promotional activities with new customers being the ROI. Whereas PR is cataloged as free coverage for rising credibility around a company’s image. It is more difficult to calculate ROI for PR consulting than it is for marketing,

Longevity: Selling is a short-term activity, whereas PR gains its benefits over a longer period of time. While marketing seeks to drive instant the benefits of a PR program can be viewed as a long-term investment that a company would identify for future achievements.
