Metoprolol is the selective ?1 receptor blocker which blocks the ?1 receptor resulting in inhibition of sympathetic nervous system leading to decreased cardiac output and oxygen demand by the heart muscles.

It is used to treat hypertension as well as angina a typical chest pain.

It is drug of choice in patient withcase of diabetic patient and the patients with peripheral vascular disease.

Side effects are:

  • insomnia,  fatigue, erectile dysfunction and Hypoglycemia

NURSING INTERVENTIONS:

nusing staff shoul equire about the patient history including allergies, diabetes and so many other diseased state condition. Furthermore there is need to monitor blood pressure and pulse prior administration of this medicine. There is need to check the body weight and observe the fluid intake.

Furthermore a proper patient councelling is required for safe medication therapy.
