- Filtration of proteins is prevented
in the glomerulus by glomerular
filtration barrier.
- Glomerular filtration barrier
consists of several layes such as,
- Glycocalyx which
is made up of proteoglycans and an absorbed layer of plasma
proteins.
- Glomerular basement
membrane (GBM) or basal lamina synthesized by podocytes
and endothelial cells and some layers of collagen.
- Fenestrated endothelium of
glomerular capillaries.
- These structures are lined with
epithelial and endothelial cells which helps to prevent the
filtration of proteins in the glomerulus.
Note : Glomerular filtration barrier
plays a vital role in preventing the loss of proteins in the
glomerulus thereby absorbing the protein molecules with the help of
several layers present in it.
