SHARPS
Sharps are devices with sharp points
or edges that can puncture or cut the skin. Sharps may be usd at
home and at work.
Some of the sharps and their
uses include:
- Needles : A very
fine, slender, hollow piece of metal used to inject medication
under the skin.

Syringes: A device to which a needle is
attached in order to inject medication into or withdraw fluid from
the body.
- Lancet : An
instrument with a short, two-edged blade used to get drops of blood
for testing. Lancet is commonly used in the treatment of
diabetes.
- Auto injector: A
syringe pre-filled with fluid medication designed to be
self-injected into the body.
- Infusion set : A
tubing system with a needle used to deliver drugs to the body.
- Connection needle/set : A needle that connects
to a tube used to transfer fluids in and out of the body. This is
generally used for patients on home hemodialysis.
- Razor : A bladed tool primarily
used in the removal of body hair through the act of shaving mainly
for surgeries, major or minor.
- Stitch cutter : It is similar to a scalpel
which is used for general suture removal.
