The following are not needed in a PCR reaction: Explain why for each component. How is what these enzymes do accomplished in PCR?
-Helicase
-Primase
I believe the correct answers to be as follows:
A) Helicase
Helicase has a function to break the hydrogen bonds between 2 complementary strands of DNA molecule so that the DNA is available to be replicated by polymerase. This process called denaturation is done in the PCR by heating the sample to 95 degrees after which the strands become single straed and hence the activity of helicase is not seperately needed.
B) Primase
Primase is an enzyme that is used to create RNA primers and it is not needed in the PCR reactions because Primers are already added in the reaction by individual who is performing the reaction that are used to specify what part of the DNA needs to be replicated so there is no need to add primase as well.
