ANSWER: I feel the nurse should be an all-rounder and should provide holistic care to the patient, not only focus to the patient but also she is responsible for his/ her family. The aspect I feel is important for the nursing profession are:

  • critical thinking: It is the most important aspect that should the nurse have in her profession. Critical thinking gives the opportunity to make a decision and plan care for patients to improve their health.
  • communication skills: It is also the most important factor, by using effective communication skills nurses can provide psychological comfort to the patient, and also she can collect effective data from the patient.
  • the feeling of empathy and concern: Nurse should empathize with the patient, she should understand their feelings, should encourage patients to share their feelings, concern, and thoughts regarding the condition. She should also support the family as well.
  • flexibility: being flexible in nursing, a nurse can choose any way or path to overcome the obstacle. She is very flexible to work in long working hours, with changing shifts.
  • interpersonal skills: She should have great interpersonal skills, to maintain good relationships with patients, health care team members. She should have skills to collaborate with others for effective nursing care, integrity is one of the important aspects of the nursing profession.
  • physical and mental endurance: In the nursing profession, you must have physical and mental health, nursing is one of the most stressful professions where you have to endure yourself for long working hours, in a hectic schedule, with more workload and shortage of staff. You must have emotional stability.
  • respect diversity: Nurse should do respect all cultures, she should understand that all individuals is unique and must respect their values, belief, and cultures. She should provide them with dignity whether the patient is alive or dead.
