Answer #1

Peer review is a process of subjecting an author’s scholarly work, research or ideas to the scrutiny of others, who are experts in the same field. It encourages authors to meet the accepted high standards of and to disseminate research data after ensuring that unwarranted claims, unacceptable interpretations or personal views are not published without prior expert review. A scientific hypothesis or statement is usually not accepted by the academic community until it has been published in a peer-reviewed journal. However, there is a flip side also. The process of peer review has also been sometimes criticized as it is slow and often delays publishing of new findings. Also, sometimes there are perceived bias by the editors and/or the reviewers. Still on the balance, it is best to use peer review to support one’s ideas.
