Peer review includes subjecting the author's scholarly literature and analysis to the review of other experts in the same field to confirm its validity and examine its appropriateness for publication. A peer review assists the publisher to decide whether a work should be taken.

Plagiarism can be avoided by:

  • Control your time and organise your work – assure that you have sufficient time to prepare, read and write.
  • When paraphrasing an author's writing, ensure that you use your own words and a sentence structure adequately distinct from the primary text.
  • In your notes, highlight in colour/bold any direct quotes you want to utilise in your assignment - this will help to secure you use quotation marks with a proper reference when you are writing up your work.
  • Allot ample time to review your final draft for potential referencing mistakes or imperfections
  • Store all your records, data, printouts and so on until you receive your final mark or grade.
