Should Walmart have pursued e-commerce more aggressively sooner? 300 words

Answer #1

Solution:-No,Walmart should not pursued e-commerce more aggressively sooner. It would not shown the obvious impact on the e-commerce more aggressively. It is not obvious that Wal-Mart should have pursued e-commerce vigorously prior to 1999. Few consumers were on-line prior to 1999, and those that were on-line tended to be more affluent (not the typical Wal-Mart customer). Note that a potential disconnect exists between Wal-Mart’s traditional customer base (mid to lower income families) and the higher income consumer who can afford the hardware, software, and connectivity services required to be on-line. Until the cost of getting connected falls to the point that traditional Wal-Mart shoppers are on-line, or public access to the internet through institutions like local libraries becomes broader, investing a lot to create Wal-Mart.com may not be warranted even now.

Walmart is licking its wounds from a terrible 4 th quarter in terms of its e-commerce performance. As Sturat Lauchlan writes, “There are many demographics, especially younger and professional segments, for whom Walmart is not the destination of choice online. This is a tough nut for Walmart to crack, and one that it can only break by more heavily marketing its services and proposition. Walmart needs to invest in evolving and adapting. If it doesn’t, it will become irrelevant.” Walmart’s...
