To know the impact of dissemination of smartphones in Digital Divide, one has to know and understand what is Digital Divide. Digital Divide is basically the uneven distribution of access to Information and Communication Technology. The uneven distribution of access can be with respect to any geographical or Social criterias.

Lloyd Morrisett was the first person who brought up the term - Digital divide, where he classified Digital divide into groups - one having access and the other not having access to mobile phones. Later, with diversification and the role of smartphones come into picture - it is now classified into having less or more bandwidth (internet access + speed of internet).

In 1990's when computer was coming into the picture, experts had feared on Digital divide and their disadvantages as only the rich section of community will be able to buy and learn. The poor section will suffer. But, after the invention of smartphones more or less most section of people in and around the world have smartphones. Smart phones are not only helping people to communicate but it is basically a pocket sized computer. Even the poorer section of community can learn and progress as smartphones are not as expensives as computers.

Invention of Smart phones has helped in Mobile computing which is nothing but using the mobile as a computer. Surveys shows that one third of the American teens owns a smartphone. As the prices are falling day by day it expected that the number of buyers will increase which is decrease the Digital divide.

With the new technologies being made in and around the smart phones plus the rates falling - the rate of Digital divide is signifcantly getting less and it should fall significantly in upcoming years.
