What is a unit hydrographic? How do we use the information obtained from a unit hydrographic? I'm analyzing a watershed and I have to create a unit hydrographic. Can someone explain what that is and what can I do with the information obtained from it.
A unit hydrograph is a direct runoff hydrograph that is obtained from unit effective rainfall ( it could be 1 inch , 1 mm ,1cm etc. ) .
In simple terms A unit hydrograph is curve representing discharge for surface runoff on y axis and time on x axis due to 1 unit excess rainfall .
The information a unit hydrograph consists are -
1) Duration of effective rainfall.
2)Time of rise i.e the time from start of rainfall excess to the peak of hydrograph.
3)Lag time i.e the time from the centre of mass of rainfall excess to peak discharge.
The unit hydrograph for watershed is same as described above . The information available from the unit hydrograph from given watershed can be used to study the behavior of watershed and also this unit hydrograph can be converted to s - curve to study for different durations.
