The mobile phase rises in the stationary phase by means of capillary rise mehod and alonside drifts the microspot of the sample on the stationary phase. However, if the sample spot touches directly the mobile phase in the elution chamber, some part of it may gets solubilise in it and the solvent gets contaminated for further use in other TLC plate. On the other hand the sample dissolved in the solvent rises in the stationary phase and gets spread through out. As a result of which the identification and charecterization of the sample to be analysed becomes difficult and the whole experiment goes in vain.
