Colloidal particles eventually separate from the solvent. Suggest an explanation

Answer #1

colloids are the mixtures of one or more substances thar disperded as relatively large solid particles or liquid droplets throughout the solid particles liquid or gas medium. the particles of a colloid remain dispersed and do not settle due to gravity and are electrically charged and these particles are very small also called emulsion and during enough time these particles under gravity either float to the top,if less dense than the solvent and sink to the bottom if it is more dense than solvent(suspending medium) and emulsion can be break through evaporation freeze/thaw, solvents, salts etc.

Explain how colloidal particles become negatively charged. The zeta potential of colloids measured in water from Lake Michigan would be greater than, less than, or the same as the zeta potential for the same colloidal dispersion measured in a water from the Atlantic Ocean. Select the corect phrase and explain your choice.

Enter your answer in the provided box. Alpha particles produced by radioactive decay eventually pick up electrons from their surroundings to form helium atoms. Calculate the volume (in mL) of He collected at STP when 3.60 g of pure 226Ra is stored in a closed container for 136 years. (Assume that there are five alpha particles generated per 226Ra as it decays to 206Pb.)

2) The following two solvent systems were found to separate compounds X and Y by flash chromatography: • The solvent that placed X in the optimal Rf range is 10:1 hexane: ethyl acetate • The solvent that placed Y in the optimal Rf range is 10:4 hexane: ethyl acetate Which is the more polar compound, X or Y? 3) In order to separate a mixture of X and Y as in problem (2) by flash chromatography, you decide to do...

Two identical 7.10-g metal spheres (small enough to be treated as particles) are hung from separate 600-mm strings attached to the same nail in a ceiling. Surplus electrons are added to each sphere, and then the spheres are brought in contact with each other and released. Their equilibrium position is such that each string makes a 11.0 degree angle with the vertical. Part A: How many surplus electrons are on each sphere?
