Could chromatography be used to separate carbon from chlorine in CCl4?(carbon tetrachloride - a carcinogenic solvent)
Chromatography is basically a technique to separate the different components of a mixture, based upon their interactions with the mobile phase. So CCl4 is itself a compound we cannot separate it through chromatography, the separation and identification can be done through the spectroscopic analysis of the compound where you can actually make out how much is carbon and chlorine in the compound.
lets say A2B is a compound so you cannot separate it in chromatography but if this compound is mixed with D3H , you can seperate this mixture through different chromatographies, that depends upon the states of these compounds and how they interact with the mobile phase.
