Explain the digestion of carbohyrates, the enzymes needed, its location, and the major products.
Digestion of carbohydrates begins in the mouth by salivary amylase enzyme which breaks down the larger polysaccarides into smaller oligosaccarides. These then pass on to small intestine where polysaccarides and oligosaccarides are digested by a number of enzymes as pancreatic amylase and enzymes associated with enterocytes of small intestine also called brush border enzymes are sucrase, maltase, lactase. the end product of carbohydrate digestion is glucose which goes to generate fuel for the body.
