Answer #1

Advantages of using zebrafish to identify novel drugs against humans are as follows:

Zebrafish are genetical identical to humans. There is a considerable similarity between the organ systems of zebrafish and humans. Therefore these studies can be carried out in zebrafish.

Zebrafish are transparent, therefore the effects of the experiment can be seen clearly.

The genome of zebrafish is fully sequenced.

Maintenance of Zebrafish is inexpensive. They undergo rapid development and produce a large number of offspring.

There is external fertilization in case of zebrafish. Zebrafish embryos can be easily manupulated.

Disadvantages of using zebrafish:

Zebrafish cannot be used for the study of drugs against human diseases involving prostrate, mammary glands and lungs, because zebrafish do not possess these organs.

Zebrafish are poikilothermic whereas humans are endothermic.
