during the isolation and separation of DNA, what role was playe by each of the substance?

1) comb

2) Agarose gel

3) Buffer

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. The comb looks like it name. In the gel electrophoresis , the comb is put before the hot , melted gel is poured. After the gel solidifies , the comb is taken out . The 'teeth' in the comb leave small holes in the gel that we call wells. The wells provide a place to put the tha particles that are used to isolate DNA .

(2) The gel contains pores that allow the DNA particles to move very slowly towards the oppositely charged side of the chamber.

(3) TE buffer is usually used . The purpose of the buffer to stabilize DNA , while protecting it from degradation.

Hopefully it helps, thanks

How could the accuracy and precision of the DNA size estimation using standard gel electrophoresis with Agarose gel be improved? Give 3 ways! P.s. Not too technical perhaps considering it's my first year of university question What I mean is just 3 simple ways to make estimating size of DNA theough gel electrophoresis more accurate or more precise than just manually measuring the distance of DNA bands and comparing it to a reference sample DNA

Lab 9 – Molecular Biology In this lab, you will prepare an agarose gel and use gel electrophoresis to compare the size of 2 dye molecules Methyl orange and Ponceau G. You will also analyze an “unknown” sample that contains a mixture of two dyes. Dye molecules with lower molecular weight or greater electrical charge will migrate faster through the gel, than dye molecules with greater molecular weights or lesser electrical charge.
