NaCl is a salt and is used to separate the non DNA components such as cell wall, cellular proteins from DNA by the process of salting out of proteins. Only when the concentration of the salt is high, shall the proteins separate and precipitate. Also, as we know DNA has a negatively charged sugar phosphate backbone which creates strong repulsion between the two strands making it unstable. NaCl help to shield the negative charge on phosphate by neutralising it and thus making it stable.
