b) How does the release of mast cell mediators following activation/degranulation result in anaphylaxis?
In anaphylaxis , there is sudden decrease in blood pressure and bronchioles became narrower , causing problem in breathing. Other symptoms are rapid weak pulse rate, and also rash in the skin, nausea and vomiting are also symptoms of anaphylaxis. Mast cell degranulation releases histamines which is one of the mediators of anaphylatic shock. The effect of histamines are it stimulates vasodilation and also increases vascular permeability. It also increases heart rate and also induce glandular secretion. For these reasons, when degranulation of Mast cells occur, anaphylatic shock may happen.
