Why are males with the fragile X mutation more affected than females?
I believe the correct answer to be:
Because males only have one copy of X chromosome as their sex
chromosomes are XY and if there is a mutation in X chromosome, the
male organism will show its defected phenotype.
Females on the other hand have 2 copies of the X chromosome as
their genotype is XX so even if one cope is defected, there is one
copy that functions properly.
