Why do males have higher incidence of sex-linked disorders (in particular, x-linked) than females?

Why do males have higher incidence of sex-linked disorders (in particular, x-linked) than females?

Answer #1

Specifically X recessive diseases will often occur in male individuals. Males will have only one X chromosome in the two pair . A single recessive gene in X chromosome cause the disease in those individuals

The Y chromosome which is the other pair of the XY gene in male. The Y chromosome does not contain most of the specific genes that are present in the X chromosome. So the probability of this inheritance is high

Eg diseases like duchenne muscular dystrophy and the hemophilia are recessive X linked disease that will occur more in male

In Drosophila, individual X-linked genes are expressed at an approximately 2-fold higher level in males versus in females. A consequence of this is that X-linked genes are expressed at similar levels in males (XY) and females (XX). This phenomenon is known as    chromosomal sex determination    dosage compensation    P element supression    hybrid dysgenesis
