Explain why sex-linked traits in humans appear more often in males than in females including references to genotypes.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Sex linked traits appear more in males because for example X linked recessive traits are seen in females when both their X chromosomes have the diseased allele. But in males as they have only one X chromosome, even for the recessive traits they can be affected by only one diseased chromosome. Xc Xc is affected female and XcY is affected male in case of any X linked recessive trait.

For Y linked traits, every male will be affected as only males have Y chromosome and females don't. So, that is why sex linked traits in humans appear more often than in females.
