Answer #1

Answer : Even thogh the glucose concentration is higher in liver cells than in the bloodstream, glucose will move into the liver by active transport. This statement is false.

Liver is the main organ which help in maintaining the glucose homeostasis. According to the statement blood glucose level is low and liver have high glucose concentration. Liver cells have glucose transporters like GLUT1 , GLUT2 and GLUT4. GLUT1 is universal and unidirectional. GLUT 4 is insulin dependent while GLUT2 is the only glucose transporter which is bidirectional. If the blood glucose level is low, alpha cells of pancreas will secrete glucagon. Glucagon on binding with the glucagon receptors on liver cells will stimulate glycogenolysis and release glucose. Glucose through GLUT2 will reach to blood through facilitated diffusion and increase blood concentration.
