Determine whether the statements are true or false

1. The alternation of generations life cycle in protists and plants is a homology.

2. Bacteria flagella and euglenid flagella are homologous structures.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(1) In plants and protists, the reproductive cycles are comprised of the sporophytic and gametophytic generation which occur in a cyclic manner. There are certain traits that are homologous among these phylogenetically close relatives/taxa. So the given statement is true.

(2) The bacterial flagella and euglenid flagella are non-homologous structures because their structure is totally different. The bacterial flagella move by rotation while that of Euglena by bending motion. So the given statement is false.

Determine whether the following statements are true or false. If the statement is false, then explain why the statement is false or rewrite the statement so that it is true. If a scatterplot shows a linear association between two numerical variables, then a correlation coefficient that is close to 1 indicates a strong positive trend and a correlation coefficient that is close to 0 indicates a strong negative trend.
