Alteration of these two generation in life known as alteration of generation.

2) in mosses , spires are generated by meiosis so they have n chromosome. So they under go mitosis division to form male and female gametophyte. From the male and female gametophyte haploid sperm and egg are formed which fused and lead to formation of 2n sporophyte.
