Bioaccumulation is the gradual accumulation of substances such as pesticides or toxins in an organsim. It occurs because the absorption rate of that substance is higher then it's excretion. BMAA toxin is produced by cyanobacteria and it is eaten by many sea animals such as oyster, shrimp etc. When these animals are eaten by humans this BMAA toxin is stored inside the human body. These toxins are sometimes undetectable hence the extent of bioaccumulation cannot be known. These BMAA toxin are neuro toxins and responsible for causing many neurodegenerative disorders.
