There are people who contend that global warming is a theory which is not based on solid empirical evidence. Does thermodynamics as a discipline have anything to say about this environmental (and social, and political) issue? Make an initial posting before replying to other threads.

The term global warming implies increase in temperature of Earth.

we know that from the law of thermodynamics that Heat energy can neither be created nor be destryoed, but it can be transferred from one source to another.

Because of depletion of protective layers of Earth's atmosphere the heat energy transferred to earth from Sun has increased in amount and in addition to that the burning of fuels by man is also adding into surface temperature of earth.

So this way it proved that Global warming has direct relation to thermodynamics as a discipline.
