Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccines are effective in preventing infection with the types of HPV they target when given before initial exposure to the virus.
Working of HPV vaccines:-
When the vaccine is given to a person, HPV vaccines stimulate the persons body to produce antibodies. In future when it encounters with HPV it bind to the virus and prevent it from infecting cells. If a person is then exposed to the real virus the same antibodies can prevent it from entering the cells of the body and creating an infection.ie an immunity is developed. The vaccines do not prevent other sexually transmitted diseases, nor do they treat existing HPV infections. It only produces antibodies in the body to fight againts HPV.
