How is MHC polymorphism produced and supported/ continued?
MHC polymorphsim:
MHC polymorphisms are very common and both the classes of MHC (ClassI and ClassII) has many alleles. This is because it has multiple gene loci and multiple alleles for each loci. As a result of multilple alleles, there is huge diversity and this diversity helps in production of wide range of peptides.
How are polymorphism produced
The polymorphisms are produced based on the pathogens and hosts. I.e, different types of MHC (produced as a result of polymorphism) binds to different peptides and can defend wide range of pathogens.
How is polymorphism continued.
The polymorphisms continues as MHC genes are Co-dominantly expressed which means that the two alleles at a gene locus/loci of MHC in the homozygous chromosomes re expressed together.
