If the intracellular concentration of water is 98%, what will happen if the cell is placed in a solution of 100% water. Is this solution isotonic, hypotonic, or hypertonic (explain your answers to both questions)

Answer. If the intracellular concentration of water is 98% means the cells there will too have 98% concentration means 98ml water and 2ml solute.

The solution has 100% water means it's hypotonic or high solvent concentration in comparison to 98% concentration.

In osmosis, solvent moves from higher concentration to the region of lower concentration.

Thus, if a cell with 98% concentration is dipped in a solution of 100% water, it will gain water to endosmosis. Here the solution is hypotonic and the cell is hypertonic.

Thus, the cell will gain weight due to endosmosis.
