When the cell is placed in the hypotonic environment the water will enter inside the cell the cell get burst.

on the other hand

In the hypertonic solution if the cell is placed it will get shrinked. Because the water or the solvent content of the cell will come out due to the change in the osmalarity by the process of the passive diffusion. This movement of the solvent is maintained to cover the isotonicity.

This is governed by the Fick's Law of the diffusion.
