The SA node establishes a heart rate of 100 bpm, but the adult heart only beats at 75 bpm. Explain why the slowing?
ANSWER :
Since, both the divisions of autonomic nervous system (ANS) involve in regulating heart beat or contraction rate of the heart. If there is no nervous supply to the heart's chambers, the SA (sinoatrial) node would establish a sinus rhythm of approximately 100 BPM, but in adult individuals it (normal heart rate) remain about to 75 bpm due to innervation of the vagus branch from the parasympathetic division.
The parasympathetic stimulation releases acetylcholine neurotransmitter at the neuro-muscular junctions to open the chemically gated potassium ions channels, and further lead to slow down the HR via increasing the repolarization.
