What is the role of Hemoglobin in the transport of oxygen in the blood? Add a note on the oxygen dissociation constant.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The blood contains red blood cells, The red blood cells contain a protein hemoglobin ,it is made of four subunits having two alpha subunits and two beta subunits surrounding a central heme group that contains iron and binds one oxygen molecule, means each hemoglobin molecule bind four oxygen molecules and by this way blood transports oxygen .

The oxygen dissociation curve shows relationship between the partial pressure of oxygen and oxygen saturation of haemoglobin demonstrating that, as the partial pressure of oxygen increases, more oxygen binds hemoglobin.
