The process of gas transport in the
human body has two major sites:
- At lungs, Oxygen
is taken by blood and Carbon dioxide is given out.
- At tissues /
organs, Oxygen is given and carbon dioxide is taken
away.
At both these sites the gases diffuse passively as there is difference in their concentration levels at both sites. This difference in partial pressure causes a gradient and gases are released.
As whole process is done through simple passive diffusion, it does not require energy. In fact the oxygen taken in at tissue level makes more energy by participating in ETC.
