Compare and Contrast two organic macromolecules.
Which organic molecules are always, sometimes, never water soluble?
The four major organic macromolecules are protein, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids. Here I am considering proteins and lipids.
- proteins are polymer of amino acids while lipids are polymer of fatty acids and glycerol.
- basic formula for protein is CHON while for lipids the general formula is CHO.
- some proteins are water soluble while lipids are not soluble in water.
- the fuctionafu role of proteins include storage, structural, transport, enzyme and defensive while lipids main role include energy storage, chemical messanger and protection.
- example of proteins areenzyme and some hormones, while example of lipids include cholesterol, butter, oil etc.
Always water soluble: carbohydrates, nucleic acids
Sometimes soluble: proteins
Never soluble: Lipids.
