Question 8: of the following molecules, which do you predict to be the least soluble in water ?
A. RNA
B. Cholesterol
C. a peripheral membrane protein
D. Sodium chloride
E. An oligosaccharide

Homework Answers

Answer #1

ANS:-) b) cholestrol must be the least soluble one and only few of them contain an hydoxyl group which is important for polarity with water but most of them are strictly non- polor.

all of the other option like RNA : they have hydoxyl backbone and can easily soluble

an oligosaccharide : is a polar compound having oH group with it so can easily be soluble in water .

sodium chloride: it is an ionic compound which ca easily hydrolise with water.

a peripheral membrane protein: cycle between a soluble state and a membrane bound state. they can be soluble but not always.
