ANSWER: Aldosterone causes water retention by creating a osmotic gradient. It absorbs salts in the urine like sodium, potassium which would create an osmotic pressure that absorbs water from the tubules. Whereas vasopressin absorbs water directly through aquaporins.

As these hormones increases the absorption of water from the renal tubules there is overall increase in the water concentration of the blood which leads to the increase in blood volume and blood pressure.
