Describe the way that astrocytes and neurons interact. What is the role that Calcium
plays?
Astrocytes and neurons communicate by tripartite synapse which is which is a bidirectional communication between the astrocytes and neurons astrocytes have ca2+ dependent protein which makes the release of gliotransimiters like glutamate , ATP and d - serinase that help in communication process between neuron and astrocytes. This process is called tripartite synapse . It is clear that the communication occur by this process of release of gliotransimiters.
Role of calcium
Tripartite synapse is formed when ca2+ dependent protein channel open and elevation of ca2+ cause the release gliotransimiters from astrocytes which trigger a number of process like reuptake of glutamate, and extracellular regulation of d serine which makes the communication process possible
