Explain the role calcium plays in the release of neurotransmitters in nerves.
In neurons, calcium is required for the release of the neurotransmitters from the vesicles into the synaptic cleft
Normally the neurotransmitters are stores inside the neurons in vesicles....so in order to release out from the vesicles, calcium is needed. So when calcium is entered into the cell, it causes the fusion of these vesicles with that of the postsynaptic membrane and later will cause the release of the neurotransmitter to outside of the cell.
Hope this helps.... Thank you!!!
