1. Choose one of the hormones from the pituitary gland and discuss IN YOUR OWN WORDS what would happen when the hormone you selected was increased AND decreased.
The pituitary gland is an endocrine gland about the size of a
pea. It is a protrusion of the hypothalamus. It contains three
lobes.
Anterior pituitary produces HGH, Corticotropes, TSH, FSH, and
LH.
Intermediate lobe produces melanocyte-stimulating hormone.
Posterior pituitary produces ADH and Oxytocin.
Pituitary hormone regulates growth, blood pressure, metabolism, and energy management.
Excess growth hormone causes Acromegaly, pituitary gigantism,
and somatotroph adenomas.
Deficiency of growth hormone causes growth failure, short stature,
and delayed sexual maturity.
