Answer #1

The cell cycle is a complex series of pathways which is controlled by various regulatory mechanism. The progression of a cell from one stage of cell cycle to another is a controlled process. Various regulatory factors make sure that before a cell divide all the errors in its DNA are corrected and if not then the cells commit a suicide. This process of programmed cell death is called as apoptosis. However in cancer cells, the cell loses its regulatory control over cell division and leads to an uncotrolled cell proliferation. A cancer cell loses its property of undergoing apoptosis and hence continue to divide with a damaged DNA. The cause of this lose of control over cell division is becuase of a gnetic mutation which causes a malunctioning of cell cycle check points.
