Why is concentration of Co2 important for breathing?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) is important for breathing because an increase in CO2 concentration in the blood, increases the breathing and also brings remarkable changes in pH of blood. These changes can be detected by medulla oblongata in hindbrain, which acts as a regulatory center for respiration and breathing. When concentration of CO2 in blood is increased, breathing becomes faster. This increase in the concentration of CO2 will be due to decrease in affinity of haemoglobin (Hb) for oxygen. So, concentration of CO2 is important for breathing, as it plays various role in human body by regulating the pH of blood, stimulating breathing and influencing the affinity of haemoglobin for oxygen.

Why do you conclude this? (2) Should the two...

The concentration of CO2 in a soft drink under a pressure of 2.3 atm is 0.071 M. Calculate the concentration of CO2 in a soft drink after the bottle is opened and equilibrates at the same temperature under a CO2 partial pressure of 3.0 x 10-4atm. The answer is 9.3 * 10^-6 M but I don't know how to start this problem. Pls help!

In class we said that each doubling of the atmospheric CO2 concentration will cause the mean global temperature to increase by 3.0 ºC. Climate models in fact predict each doubling of the atmospheric CO2 concentration will increase between 1.5ºC-4.5ºC, due largely to uncertainties about how clouds will respond. What is the range of mean temperature increase for each doubling of the atmospheric CO2 concentration? Express your answer as a temperature range in degrees Celsius.
