Elucidate the fate of B and T lymphocytes after their production

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Both B and T lymphocytes are produced in the bone marrow. AFter their production these cells undergo the process of maturation before their release into the blood.

Maturation of B cells occur in the bone marrow.

While T Lymphocytes migrate to the thymus gland where it matures.

In circulation after exposure to pathogen or antigen, T cells proliferates and differentiate into different populations of T cells such as killer T cells, Helper T cells, Memory T cells, cytotoxic T cells, Suppressor t cells.

Similarly b cells differentiate into Plasma cells that forms antibodies and B memory cells.

There is evidence that cytotoxic T lymphocytes (T cells) participate in controlling tumor growth and that they can be harnessed to use the body's immune system to treat cancer. One study investigated the use of a T cell-engaging antibody, blinatumomab, to recruit T cells to control tumor growth. The data below are T cell counts (1000 per microliter) at baseline (beginning of the study) and after 20 days on blinatumomab for 6 subjects in the study. The difference (after 20...
