Touch is important to form bond between the parent-child. The infants are very sensitive to the gentle and caressing touch of their parents. The universal pattern of touching the newborn includes gentle caressing on their backs by mothers and fathers. Gently holding their babies in their lap, arms etc. Holding their babies little hands, comforting them with gentle strokes when their new borns are in distress etc. New born seeks tactile stimulation to be comforted, to understand that they are secure and loved by their parents. The nature of touch between the new borns and their parents establishes the type of bond that they would be sharing in the future. Thus, touch is universal in forming bond between the parent-child relationship.
